to: Drill & Blast Superintendent
Lumwana Mining Company Limited (LMC), a copper mining
company owned by Barrick Gold Corporation is situated in the North Western
region of Zambia, some 300 km west of the Zambian Copperbelt and 95 km south
west of the provincial capital of Solwezi. The mine is a multi-pit, multi
staged operation mining approximately 100MT of ore and waste per annum and
producing copper concentrates containing an average of 120,000 tonnes of copper
metal per year over a twenty (20) year mine life, making Lumwana the largest
single open cut copper mine in Africa. The Company is now looking for an experienced and qualified
individual to be considered for the position of Drill and Blast
Planning Coordinator
Role
Summary
Reporting
to the Drill & Blast Superintendent, you
will be responsible for supporting the drill and blast team on all
drill and blast planning functions. In addition, you will be required to train
and mentor the Drill & Blast crew. Your duties will include but are
not limited to the following:
· Monthly
and Weekly mine planning
· Blast
design and timing
· Drill
and blast reporting
· Ensure
the safe, timely and cost-efficient delivery of drill and blast planning
related services to the mine, projects and corporate departments affiliated
with LMC.
· Ensure
that all D&B Planning personnel comply with site and regulatory safety
practices and procedures.
· Forecast
and Budget D&B physicals for LMC and related business partners
· Develop
detailed drill and blast plans including patterns, tie in plans, costing’s,
financial evaluations, and documentation
· Produce
month-by-month D&B master plans for pits and integrate this into the short
and medium-term planning
· Provide
technical evaluations of operations with the intent of optimizing Drill and
Blast designs and practices
· Develop
short and medium-term Drill and Blast planning and scheduling processes/
procedures
· Produce
mine reconciliation reports tracking drill and blast production, spatial compliance
and drill and blast costs
· Promote
and assist with Business Improvement projects
· Ensure
that the D&B planning group are providing the required level of service to
mine operations and projects.
· Work
with the geotechnical and operational teams to determine the best practices for
managing wall control and incorporate this into designs.
· Ensure
that environmental policies and strategies are incorporated into mining plans.
· Ensure training plans for employees
are in place and regularly monitored and reappraised
· Promote
a culture of safety and productivity
To be considered for the position, you must meet the
following requirements:
· Bachelor
of Mining Engineering or other mining related field
· 10
years’ experience working in large open cast mining operations (preferably in
hard rock with ore bodies, not just quarry blasting) with a Proven track record
of success
· Experience
in designing drill patterns with extensive knowledge of blast simulation
software and a minimum 4 years designing tie ins
· Expert
user in the application of mining engineering design software tools like
Vulcan, MinesSight, Surpac and others.
· Displays
initiative and team work skills.
· Holder
of a valid driver’s license
· Experience
in managing costs and budgeting
