ROLE PURPOSE:
The Health Coordinator is responsible for supporting the
planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of the community implemented
health and nutrition programmes (School Health and Nutrition –SHN, Maternal,
Child Health and Nutrition-MCHN) supported by Save the Children Zambia Country.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Technical Support and Capacity Building
- Provide
the necessary technical assistance related to child health and nutrition
to the project and partners
- In
liaison with the Sponsorship Field Office-Manager and other sponsorship
staff ensure quality implementation of the health and Nutrition program.
- Provide
technical support and advice leading to the development of new initiatives
within the health and nutrition program and SCI
- Initiate
and conduct capacity building activities as required to strengthen staff
and partner ability to implement, monitor and report on HN projects
- Liaise
with the PDQ team to develop plans for technical support, M&E,
documentation of best practices and advocacy – as well as concept papers
and project proposals for programme development.
- Ensure
that children are protected against forms of abuse by their families and
communities.
- With
support from the Sponsorship Field Office-Manager identify, plan,
implement, monitor and coordinate health and nutrition activities relevant
to child health and ensure they are within sponsorship and SCI policies.
- Establish
regular liaison with the Ministry of Health, other relevant government
ministries, to build effective and coordinated approaches to the provision
of health and nutrition.
- Mobilize
communities to discuss lessons learnt, promising practices, and ways to
expand both coverage and quality of programming.
- Coordinate
knowledge and skills-building initiatives in order to improve health and
nutrition capacity to enhance children’s health and wellbeing
Budget management
- Hold
responsibility to ensure timely expenditure for planned activities by
partners in program implementation
- Monitor
budget utilisation in accordance with SC guidelines
Monitoring and evaluation
- Follow
up partners and community annual and quarterly implementation plans and
reporting requirements according to SC guidelines
- Conduct
regular project monitoring visits to all sites, reviewing project outcomes
with stakeholders and adjust work plans as necessary
- Ensure
partner compliance with donor and relevant country legislature
requirements
External relations
- Ensure
positive relationships with ALL partners
- Represent
SC in meetings with local government authorities, other NGO’s and Lead and
support relevant advocacy initiatives, including strengthening the
application of the National Health and Nutrition Policy and practices at
the school, district and national levels
- Establish
regular liaison with the Ministry of community development , other
relevant government ministries, to build effective and coordinated
approaches to the provision of school health and nutrition to children

Qualifications and experience
- Degree
or equivalent in an area of social work/Clinical, Nursing and Public
health nutrition
- Recommended
a minimum of 3 years management experience in Nutrition and child health
program
- Highly
developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing,
negotiation and coaching
- Highly
developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international
environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
- Strong
results orientation, with the ability to challenge existing mind sets
- Experience
of solving complex issues through analysis, definition of a clear way
forward and ensuring buy in
- Ability
to present complex information in a succinct and compelling manner
- Ability
and willingness to dramatically change work practices and hours, and work
with incoming surge teams, in the event of emergencies
- Fluency
in English, and Bemba or Lamba (both verbal and written)
